Although the walks lead to steep climbs for the first few days, the rest of the trekking is pleasant downhill. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking is altitude friendly, where elevation gains at a gradual pace as you reach the highest point. On top of Poon Hill at 3,210 m high, offer a grand vista of the world’s three highest peaks with striking sunrise views. Ghorepani and Poon Hill is a delightful destination for more than 360°, panorama of the Mid-West Himalayas.  
The walk starts after an exciting drive from beautiful Pokhara city to reach the foothills of Annapurna Himal. The adventure commences from the lower warm farm areas and climbs towards the cooler hill of Ulleri Village. 
Then the walk leads to a winding slow gradual up to Ghorepani, located amidst a beautiful rhododendrons forest.
The next morning, an hour uphill hike to Poon Hill for a spectacular sunrise. Along with views of the wide Himalayan Snow Mountains ranges, from Poon Hill and Ghorepani. 
The return journey leads up to scenic Deurali Hilltop, and then downhill to a large Gurung village at Ghandruk. Where our walk completes, taking a short hour drive back to Pokhara.

THE BEST SEASONS FOR GHOREPANI POON HILL TREKKING:

For Ghorepani Poon Hill treks, visitors can enjoy the walk around all seasons of the year except the wet monsoon, in summer times. 
The right favorable and the best seasons are spring and autumn/fall.
Spring begins in early March and ends in May, where most days are bright with sunshine for longer hours. From early 6:30 am till 5 pm, it can get cloudy afternoon sometimes with chances of light snowfall.
Cold morning, late afternoon, and night times, as well with an extra wind-chill factor above 3,000 meters. The afternoon is bright with a strong UV (ultraviolet) and requires sunblock, sunglasses, hats, and long-sleeved tops. 
Spring is a lively time with wildflowers in seasonal blooms, especially the rhododendrons of various species and colors. 
The next best season is autumn/fall, from September to November, when most days are fine and clear for views and walks. But much colder morning, late afternoon, and nighttime, chances of snowfall sometimes. Get much colder during the late afternoon with a wind chill factor. However, a pleasant season of autumn/fall for Ghorepani and Poon Hill treks.

FOODS, ACCOMMODATION ON GHOREPANI POON HILL TREKKING: 

Trekkers will be surprised to find various standards of lodge accommodation on Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trek. Especially at Ghorepani and Ghandruk villages. From simple tourist standards to moderate lodge accommodations with attached baths and toilets. But most lodges are simple with common baths and toilets. 
Extra charge for using the hot showers, but the dining rooms are large and cozy with a fireplace. Keeps the place warm while you enjoy the meals. All lodges provide a comprehensive food menu, including a wide variety of breakfasts, from oats, porridge, and cornflakes. 
Bread, Chapatti, and Pancakes, with choices of egg variation, from scrambled, boiled, poached, and omelets. Followed by hot refreshing drinks, tea, coffee, and drinking chocolates. Lunch and dinner with a list of continental, Indian, Nepali, Chinese, and Tibetan foods. 
Some lodge restaurants in Ghorepani and Ghandruk also provide Mexican, Italian, Japanese, and Korean foods, including fresh bakery. 
All dining rooms are bright with lamps run by local hydroelectricity or from solar power. Most lodges provide free internet and Wi-Fi, which is slow and disturbing. Due to landscapes and weather conditions on designated overnight stops. For larger groups of more than 4 people, it is best to order a set menu, which saves time and fuel energy. To follow the norms of Eco or Responsible Tourism.

RELIGION AND CULTURES ON GHOREPANI AND POON HILL TREKS:

Although Nepal is dominated by 75% Hindu religion, the higher mountains around the Himalayan range. Around Ghorepani and Poon Hill is populated by the Poon-Magar and Gurung people, the major tribes of Southern Annapurna Hills. The Poon is from the Magar tribes, one of the largest hill tribes of Nepal, and follows both Hindu and Buddhist religions. The Gurung tribe follows Buddhist religion and culture, with their ancestral heritage of the ancient Bon sect of pre-Buddhism. Including Shamanism practice and every house is adorned with Buddhist prayer flags.

OUTLINE ITINERARY:

Day 01: From Pokhara drive to Thirkhedhunga 1,425 m and trek uphill to Ulleri village 2,050 m. 3 hours ride, and 2 hours walks.  
Day 02: Trek to Ghorepani village 2,885 m - 04 hrs.
Day 03: Morning hike to Poon Hill and trek to Tadapani 2,640 m-06 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to Ghandruk village 1,951 m and drive back to Pokhara-06 hrs.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : From Pokhara drive to Thirkhedhunga 1,425 m and trek uphill to Ulleri village 2,050 m. 3 hours ride, and 2 hours walks.

On reaching Pokhara from Kathmandu, with a pleasant overnight by Phewa Lake Side. After an early breakfast, and getting ready for the treks, our guide and trekking Staff receives you. For an exciting drive beyond Pokhara city, on a good highway with winding ups to Nau Danda and Kande Villages. Enjoy the grand views of Annapurna Peaks, as the drive heads downhill to Nayapul Town. 

From here our route diverts heading toward the country's hilly rough roads to Thirkhedhunga. A small farm village with beautiful waterfalls, The walk starts by crossing a bridge, and the climb leads on stone steps. After a few hours of strenuous haul reaching the overnight stop at Ulleri, a large spread-out village. 

Check into a nice lodge with views of Annapurna peaks towards the north behind the green rolling hills. 


Day 2 : Trek to Ghorepani village 2,885 m-04 hrs.

Today’s morning walk reaches the main destination at Ghorepani Village and starts the walk on a gradual path. Then entering a lovely cool alpine forest of rhododendrons and pine trees. As the walk progresses with a few short steep ups then reaching the lower Ghorepani with a welcome entrance gate. 

After a short rest a short climb to a high ridge called Deurali and top of Ghorepani. The village is located. Arrived by lunch time and for an overnight halt in the comfort of a nice lodge, amidst beautiful rhododendron trees. From the lodge at Ghorepani, enjoy the views of Dhaulagiri Himal with the snow peaks of Annapurna Himal. 


Day 3 : Morning hike to Poon Hill (3210m.) and trek to Tadapani 2,640 m-06 hrs.

An early morning hike of an hour or more to Poon Hill, the highest point of the adventure. From the top of Poon Hill enjoy the glorious sunrise views, as it reflects over the white snow peaks. Overlooking the grand panorama of Dhaulagiri, 

Annapurna and Manaslu Himalayas with majestic Machhapuchare Himal, the famous Fish-Tail peak. After a refreshing morning scenic hike down to Ghorepani for breakfast and packing, then get ready for the day walks. 

Leaving Ghorepani, the trail follows to a steep up through lovely rhododendron, and pine forest. After a few hours of good climbing reach on top of a hill called Deurali, almost the same height as Poon Hill. From the top-facing panorama of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Nilgiri’s and Annapurna Himalayan range of peaks. After a long climb, enjoy the downhill to Bhanthati, a small settlement with several lodges and restaurants. Located on a deep gorge by the small fresh stream, stopping here for lunch, afternoon a short descent to the bridge. Then following a steep climb for an hour to overnight stop at Tadapani, a small settlement. Check into a nice lodge, and enjoy the close views of Annapurna South, Huin Chuli with Machhapuchare Himal. 

Day 4 : Trek to Ghandruk village 1,951 m and drive back to Pokhara-06 hrs.

Morning depending upon the seasons, for views of sunrise from Tadapani as it strikes on the snow peaks of Annapurna. Having breakfast, start the last day of trekking to Ghandruk and then reach Pokhara. From Tadapani, the trail follows a pleasant forested path to a small place of Bhaise Kharka.   

Then downhill to a stream, as the walk follows on a gradual winding path and descends to Ghandruk. A large village and the gateway to various adventures around the Annapurna Himalayas. The village is mainly inhabited by the Gurung people, the main tribes of Annapurna region. At Ghandruk enjoy the last lunch around the mountain lodge restaurants with views of Annapurna peaks.

Afternoon a short walk to the road head, and then board in a jeep or similar 4WD. For the exciting and scenic drive to Pokhara, the road follows down and then to Bhirethati and Nayapul. On reaching the main highway, a smooth drive brings you to the hotels at Pokhara. After a great wonderful short adventure to Ghorepani and Poon Hill.
